The American School of Doha Chapter of the National Honor Society proudly welcomed its new members this past Sunday, November 1 at its annual Induction Ceremony.  Twenty students from across grades 10 – 12 were admitted into the organization.

National Honor Society, since its establishment in 1922, is a service organization in American Schools both in the US and abroad that strives to recognize excellence in its four pillars: scholarship, leadership, character and service.  Students with a GPA of 3.5 and above are invited to apply and applicants are selected on the basis of their leadership contributions in these four areas.

NHS at the American School of Doha has been involved in many humanitarian efforts.  In the past years, NHS has been the primary student group spearheading student efforts supporting the Machakos Education Centre, the school ASD is building in Kenya.

This upcoming year, NHS will be supporting a micro-loan program that will enable members of the St. Pius School community, ASD’s adopted school in Tanzania, to start small businesses.  NHS also collaborates with our St. Pius Club which fundraises to support scholarships that enable members of the St. Pius community to continue their education to the post-secondary level. Most NHS service projects support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #4 (Quality Education).
